We use highly aesthetic crowns in smile makeover cases when we want to alter tooth width or widen a smile, desiring long-term predictable outcomes and highly aesthetic smile zone results.
Crowns are also very suitable for teeth that are significantly damaged and broken down – they cover the whole tooth to improve its strength and restore appearance.
At Paste we prefer to use Emax or Zirconia crowns. Emax provides a really beautiful, natural-looking appearance while being tough enough to stand up to everyday use. Zirconia is a really hard-wearing material that can withstand lots of force, but looks great too.
Both of these materials are always then hand layered with multiple shades of porcelain to given those stunningly natural results.
Whatever your needs, we have the most modern solutions at Paste.
Check out some of our cases below using Emax (lithium disilicate) crowns layered with porcelain for beautifully natural results.

FAQs
What are Crowns?
Crowns are made from porcelain or ceramic materials, and are applied to cover part of an existing tooth. This can be due to damage or decay to a natural tooth, and a crown allows the tooth to be brought back to its original state.
How do Crowns work?
Crowns are added to your existing teeth to help cover up small chips, dents or imperfections to your natural teeth. These provide strength and beauty and are a treatment we love to provide.
After consultation with your dental professional, we’ll take moulds and photographs of your teeth before constructing the crowns with our partner master ceramicists. Your existing teeth will also be prepared for the crown in your first visit, but this is not an invasive treatment.
After fabrication, your bespoke crown will be applied to the selected tooth by the dental professional, before being cemented in place.
Do you have to cut down my teeth?
A crown is used to cover the remaining tooth structure to give strength and structural integrity following a fracture or loss of tooth substance due to dental caries. We therefore usually only have to remove a small amount of tooth in order to have a balanced retentive preparation with the correct angles and depths for a crown to work effectively. If you have had a crown previously and we are replacing it, even easier, we usually just tidy up the underlying tooth structure with very minimal tooth removal, given the previous crown already had adequate margins.
Occasionally we will elect to remove healthy enamel in order to use a crown to change the position or shape of a tooth. Sometimes also as an anchor for an adjacent prosthetic tooth in the form of a bridge, to give full occlusal stability and protect other teeth from excessive forces or wear.
These decisions have to be made in tandem with yourself and we always want to make sure you know exactly the pros and cons of a treatment and somethings the decision to say no to orthodontics may then mean to achieve the requested result more tooth structure has to be removed and it is a balance.
We always want to give a full range of options to our patients and we pride ourselves on our expert knowledge and years and years of experience and post-grad qualifications, letting you know how your mouth works as a system and planning treatment comprehensively, planning for future success, failure, aesthetics and long term maintenance.
I don't want Turkey Teeth as they call them?
This is not something we do at Paste, period!
While there are awesome dentists in Turkey, doing amazing dentistry and charging similar prices to us, given that that’s what the premium materials cost globally. We pride ourselves at Paste, not offering sub-standard treatment or joining a price war to the bottom!
We are not the cheapest clinic in Belfast, nope! Sorry about that, but we know we deliver an awesome product, have extremely experienced and passionate clinicians, take the time and have the knowledge to offer unparalleled care.
So we are proud not to be the cheapest!
